MUSUbaby - The Bamboo Musubi Maker

This is the cutest musabi maker by far. It comes beautifully packaged and is a local Hawaiian company, which I love to support. The downfalls are hard to overlook. First, you have to use a lot of rice in the stacked version. While it claims to allow you to select your rice, there is an inner lip that has to be met in order for the rice to compact. Second, you can’t push the rice in either stacked or filled variations completely through the press onto your nori. Third, if you do the filled version, you can not get the insert out easily without messing up your rice. Lastly, and perhaps the most frustrating is that despite all of my creative efforts, the insert is a little “wonky” to my mold thus it often nests crooked and I have to reposition it several times in order to get a flat rice patty. Due to all these challenges, I will likely return to the old faithful plastic one. I’m super bummed. ☹️

Being born and raised in Hawaii I grew up with access to spam musubi anytime I wanted it. Living in California now I can still get it but the quality just isn’t the same. I figured I’d pick up a musubi maker and just make them myself. But all the
musubi makers I looked up (especially on Amazon) were just cheap plastic. Then I came across the MUSUbaby….a work of art. Bamboo…. flexibility to make stacked or stuffed…. The perfect size and shape to make Hawaii-quality musubi in my kitchen. Stuffed poke musubi was the first thing I made and now I’m hooked. Don’t debate if you should get this…just get it… it’ll change your life.

Works far better than all of the other moulds we have tried. The rice doesn't get stuck and it's super simple to use and clean. My pre schooler is thrilled he can press his own rice without issue. The fact that it's super cute and not plastic is a bonus!
